The mid-May to mid-June period is the height of cactus flowers from my herd. Last year, I missed much of it because of my 50th reunion at Amherst. This year, I missed most of it because of my attending my friend Yüjie Xü’s graduation from Caltech in Pasadena, CA. In August, I will drive her across country to Harvard to the start of her career in pure math
