Carnegiea gigantea (saguaro)    8/1/21
I thought that none of my saguaros would break dormancy this year. It was getting late, and nothing had happened. Then I saw this on 8/1, the top of my largest saguaro. This is an excellent picture of what I mean when someone asks me how to tell if a cactus has broken dormancy. I usually tell them: "when the tip is bright." This is the tallest of my several saguaro plants, over 2 feet (60 cm). All my saguaros are the same age - 16 years old. The smallest is about 6" (15 cm). It's in a tiny pot. The pictured plant is in a 2 gallon (8 L) pot.   (047/112)
