Astrophytum asterias (super kabuto?)     8/21/16
If you carefully examine the white flecks on the body, you’ll see that the largest are round, and form a straight line pattern. This defines the ribs. The other irregularly shaped and positioned flecks are what make this a “super kabuto.” This variation was discovered in Japan. Some cynics think that the Japanese got it by irradiating A. asterias seeds, making mutants. The question mark is there because I obtained this plant from what should have been ordinary A. asterias seeds. I think that these white flecks also consist of trichomes.   (24/32)
