Echinocereus davisii    2/8/22
All books that I have read list this plant as Echinocereus viridiflorus davisii. This is just nonsense. There is some nutcake in the taxonomic world who thinks all greenish flowered small Echinocereus must be some flavor of viridiflorus. This picture makes my case. Yes, there is a small yellow green flower, but the spines are a world away from E. viridiflorus. Maybe a dozen worlds. Or a hundred. In fact these spines are so unique that maybe someone ought to erect a new genus for this plant. There is nothing like it in the spine morphology of Echinocereus that I'm aware of.   (05/40)
