Geophytic plants are some of the most extreme succulents. Most of the plant remains underground hidden from predators and herbivores, and protected from extremes of temperature and moisture. This talk looks at a variety of plant families that have adopted a geophytic lifestyle and have become an important part of the flora of African plants. The talk consists of a view of some of the more interesting species with discussions on cultivation and propagation.
